Model Cities Library

Model Cities Library existed in Albuquerque between 1969 and 1972.

The Model Cities Library was a social action community library that served South Broadway and surrounding neighborhoods from 1969 to 1972. During its history, the library had many programs for both adults and children. The library also had a van that brought books to schools and the neighborhood.

This animation represents the library as it existed in 1971. The digital recreation was created using film clips, Sanborn Maps, and images from the Albuquerque Public Library Special Collections and the private collection of Ms. Valerie Brooker, former Model Cities Librarian. Additional thank you to Ms. Rose Marie Lopez. Marie Robinson and Joe Powdrell provided information on African American librarian, Myra Durr.
